Discount retailer Lidl has clocked up 10m fans for its European Facebook pages and 370,000 for its Irish Facebook page, making it the food retailer with the largest Facebook community in Europe in addition to Ireland.
The Lidl Ireland Facebook page is the third largest brand page in the country and the largest of any grocery retailer. Set up in 2010 to mark 10 years in the Irish market, the Lidl Ireland Facebook page was a first for the brand in Europe according to the company. Since then, Lidl has set up Facebook pages in every market across Europe and collectively the brand now has a Facebook fan community of over 10.2 million followers. The figures, which have been verified by social media agency Socialbakers
According to Aoife Clarke, Head of Communications with Lidl Ireland said: “We would like to say ‘thanks a million’ to our 10 million fans across Europe, particularly to those who have joined the Lidl Ireland Facebook community over the past four years. Ireland was the first Lidl office to set up a Facebook page and over the past four years we have used the page as a platform to engage with our customers. From special offers, to competitions, to gossip, to reviews and career opportunities, we have something for everyone. We also have plenty of new initiatives coming up during the year.”
The Lidl Ireland Facebook page is managed by its communications team in Newbridge and the team have won five awards to date including two Digital Media Awards, two Bord Gais Social Media Awards and a Fresh Award. Lidl Ireland’s social media channels also include Twitter and YouTube with over 30,000 followers and over 650,000 views respectively.
