OMD Ireland has been awarded the media communications account for Liberty Global, parent company of UPC in Ireland. Liberty Global, the world’s largest international cable company has consolidated their €180m EMEA business in 12 markets into OMD.
The win follows a four-month review aimed at consolidating Liberty Global’s media business which had been shared by a number of agencies worldwide including Manning Gottlieb OMD in the UK, Carat and Havas Media. Liberty Global’s Belgian brand Telenet will be handled by OMD’s sister agency PHD in that market. The new contract will commence on January 1st 2015.
Nikki Mendonça OMD President EMEA, said: “Everyone at OMD Europe is absolutely thrilled. Winning the Liberty Global business across 12 key markets is a huge testament to our data and digital integration capabilities. They occupy an enviable place in the new mobile content creation and distribution ecosystem and we want to help them continue their rapid growth across this region. We can’t wait to get started!”
Tim Griffiths, OMD Managing Director in Ireland, said: “We are very excited to have the opportunity to work with UPC. Their central role in the evolving communication landscape is a perfect fit with our own ambitions in driving future facing marketing communications”. This latest win follows a string of heavyweight account gains for OMD, including the €160m Global Hasbro account earlier this year and, more recently, the €117m Walt Disney Company business across Europe.
