Two of the top jobs in the Irish media industry have been filled following the decision by Independent News & Media to appoint Fionnan Sheahan as editor of the Irish Independent and Cormac Bourke as the editor of the Sunday Independent. Sheahan had been group political editor while Bourke was executive editor at the Irish Independent.
Sheahan is an award-winning journalist who joined the newspaper group in 2005. A native of Thurles, Co Tipperary, he a graduate of UCC and previously worked for the Irish Examiner. For his part, Bourke is from Kildare and a graduate of DCU. He joined the group in 2007 as assistant editor. He is also a former health correspondent for Ireland on Sunday/Irish Mail on Sunday while he also worked with the Irish Daily Star.
