Following hot on the heels of the recent rebrand of eircom to eir, arch-rival UPC upped the ante this week with its own rebranding. Now called Virgin Media, the Liberty Global-owned telecommunications business has embarked on a major advertising and marketing campaign aimed at both consumers and businesses which highlights its change of name and the launch of a new mobile offering called Virgin Mobile.
The new campaign is titled “Here comes The Magic” and the company would appear to have pulled out all the stops by getting Richard Branson to drive a “magic truck” as the ad is narrated by actor Patrick Stewart of Start Trek and X-Men actor, Patrick Stewart.
The creative agency behind the ad is Irish International. OMD, meanwhile, is managing the media spend while the Dublin-based H2 Films was behind the production.
All UPC Ireland operations, products and services – residential and business – are transforming into Virgin Media. This includes customer facing brand points, the UPC website, social media platforms, service vehicles, staff apparel and the company’s offices in Dublin and Limerick.
According to Meadhbh Quinn, head of brand and marketing at Virgin Media, “our launch campaign captures the magic that only Virgin can bring to customers. The home of Ireland’s best broadband is getting even better. We believe Virgin changes the game for our customers and brings that extra magic. For starters we’re going to shake up the mobile market in Ireland, with the launch of Virgin Mobile on October 5th. And we’re just getting started, with lots more good things happening in the coming months and years ahead.”
