Advertisers spent a total of €164.5m across the print and digital platforms of Irish newspapers last year according to NewsBrands Ireland.
Of the of €164.5m was spent on advertising in 2015, €66.122m was spent by direct clients while €98.41m was spent by media agencies.
Welcoming the figures, Vincent Crowley, chairman NewsBrands Ireland said “newspapers in all formats drive the national agenda and provide unrivalled commentary and analysis. Our growing multi-platform audience is engaged and influenced by our content, which creates an effective environment for advertising messages. This significant increase in advertising revenues in 2015 is strong proof of this,” concluded Mr Crowley.
NewsBrands Ireland also announced details of its annual league table, which ranks agencies by spend. The award for highest spend was, once again, won by MediaVest. The agency invested €14.3m on advertising with NewsBrands Ireland, a €2.6m increase on the previous year, which also secured them the award for highest increase in spend.
MEC Ireland meanwhile recorded the highest percentage increase at almost 92%.
Other agencies that recorded significant year on year increases were Mediaworks(40%), PHD (45%) and Maxus (37%).
