With the countdown to the Euros well underway and football fever reaching new heights by the day, the OOH company PML conducted a survey amongst the Dublin to see who will win this year’s tournament.
According to the research, current World Cup holders Germany are set to regain the European Championship trophy in France this summer.
PML surveyed a total of 300 Dubliners between the ages of 16 to 54.
4 in 5 of the sample expressed a clear view as to which country would grab the glory in the final on July 10th.
Some 35% favoured Germany while 20% fancied reigning champions, Spain. Hosts France was the third most popular choice with 15% of the vote.
Surprisingly, the top FIFA ranked country in Europe, Belgium, received support from only 4% of the respondents.
There was no shortage of optimists among the group, with 8% believing that the Republic of Ireland will come out on top, a few percentage points higher than our neighbours, England. Italy featured at 6%.
The Euro 2016 tournament is part of an exciting summer of sport ahead with the Olympic Games featuring later in the summer along with annual favourites such as the GAA Championships. For Out of Home advertising, it means a busy period ahead.
Commenting on the research Colum Harmon, marketing director at PML Group said ‘The fact that 80% of our sample expressed an opinion in the outcome of Euro 2016 shows the huge interest levels for it among the Dublin population. Summer is a strong period for our medium but this year we expect higher than usual demand as advertisers and sponsors leverage their association with the tournament via their advertising. It is already evident on the street and we envisage lots of activity around the Euros in the coming weeks.’
