Almost 1.5m Irish Adults have now used RTÉ Player according to a new survey from B&A Research which was carried out in March.
According to the latest B&A survey, 1.5m Irish Adults have now used RTÉ Player, Ireland’s leading on-demand service. The service in any given month provides over 540 hours of content across multiple genres from entertainment, drama, news and sport, lifestyle, factual to young people’s programming. In March this year, a new international service, RTÉ Player International was launched for the Irish abroad, on iOS platforms.
“We’ve seen further expansion in the VOD market in Ireland”, commented Conor Mullen, Commercial Director, RTÉ Media Sales – Digital, “Some 63% of Irish adults now use a VOD service, a significant increase from 2012, where the figure was just 36%. RTÉ Player and Netflix have the same level of weekly viewing, with one in 5 adults watching each service. As viewing habits evolve, and more of us consume content on different platforms, RTÉ Player allows the audience to watch great RTÉ content whenever and wherever they want, on the audiences terms – either live or on demand”.
Complementing the linear service – RTÉ television – RTÉ Player lets audiences catch-up or watch live across multiple platforms, including iOS – iPod, iPhone, iPad – Android, Samsung Connected TV’s, Xbox 360, cable, and desktop. Both live and on-demand platforms offer innovative advertising opportunities.
“We’re recognised as being innovators in the advertising space”, commented Mullen. “We recently won an award from Weborama – Europe’s leading data company – for our Electric Ireland digital campaign, beating Armani and Lexus. Working closely with our partners, we’re constantly looking at new ways of bringing advertising to the platform that both resonates with and engages our audiences, with recall of advertising on RTÉ Player highest amongst the 15 – 34 age -group”.
