“A key focus for Independent News & Media (INM) is delivering a market leading mobile offering to feed the insatiable appetite for mobile from audiences and advertisers alike. In January, Independent.ie hit a record high of 6.183 million monthly unique mobile users, 3.4m of which are Irish adults visiting the Independent.ie site on their mobile phone on a monthly basis,” according to the publisher.
According to Fionnula O’Leary, group digital editor of INM: “Every new channel or distribution platform gives us an opportunity to reach wider audiences. New products such as Farm Ireland, The Left Wing with Luke Fitzgerald and The Floating Voter podcast have seen us diversify our stable of content and draw in new users. Editorial initiatives such as the Independent.ie Reader Travel Awards have helped us put the user in the driving seat for shaping our content. Meanwhile, platforms such as Facebook Instant Article and Google Amp are giving us new opportunity to reach people we may not have attracted before. On top of this, the news team have set the agenda with exclusive exposes on the businessmen behind Ireland’s Rental Crisis, the first interview from prison with convicted murderer Marta Herder and the revelation of a sexual assault crisis within one garda division. It’s a very exciting time for the Independent.ie team who are watching audiences react in big numbers to our content.”
