Core has awarded a county Dublin student a scholarship to attend Design West, Ireland’s exciting International Design Summer School and Creative Festival, which is running from June 22nd – July 5th.
Aisling Murphy from Dublin was awarded the scholarship by the Design West Summer School, in recognition of her work on advertising in developing countries and the portrayal of Ugandan street children. Her other works include The Loner Bee Project which targets young urban-dwelling adults and encourages them to take action to preserve and extend bee habitats. She recently completed a degree in Visual Communications Design at IADT.
Taking place at GMIT Letterfrack in Connemara, Design West offers participants the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of design, and work with leading international designers from renowned studios across the globe. It allows for collaboration between local and global thinkers – fusing trusted techniques with disruptive methods.
This is the second year that Core is sponsoring the event and it will have two participants, Melanie O’Donovan, from the Hubble team at Core and Mike Garner, Core Creative, attending the Design Summer School.
According to Aisling Murphy: “I’m excited to be going to Design West and I will take my time in the early stages of design experiment and be open to new ideas as opposed to reverting to the computer. I’m also looking forward to making things with my hands, as visuals can say a lot without being overtly obvious.”
Finian Murphy, Marketing Director at Core added: ‘“We are excited to be sponsoring the Design West scholarship, and are delighted that Aisling will be heading out west. At Core, we are committed to learning and creativity, and the school is a great blend of the two. We look forward to Mike and Mel returning with new inspiration and ideas.”
