Leading mental health charity, Aware, have launched an appeal to recruit 200 additional volunteers to support their vital services across Ireland. The charity has seen an increase in demand for their services since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic and expects demand for its services to be high for a lengthy period of time.
Aware’s appeal, launched in conjunction with their partner Cadbury Ireland, aims to recruit volunteers to help with their Support Line and Life Skills Online programmes. All volunteers, who must be 25 and older, will receive full training and ongoing support. Aware is looking for volunteers who are empathetic, compassionate, and have good communication skills. For those who are unable to volunteer, support in the form of a donation will also help Aware to continue to provide their vital services.
Lockdown has had a significant impact on anxiety levels and mood in Ireland. People experiencing anxiety and low mood need to know that there is someone they can reach out during these difficult times. Aware provides that service. This campaign is a call to the Irish public, who are innately generous, and want to help at this difficult time, to register their interest to help those whose mental health is impacted by Covid 19, by volunteering for Aware.
The campaign was developed by an inter-agency team; Carat, Fleishman Hillard and The Public House. It includes a partnership with The Journal, social and radio advertising and has already seen a surge in volunteer applications since launch a week ago. The campaign idea, ‘This is your call to make a real difference’, created by The Public House, highlights that by volunteering with Aware’s Support Line or Life Skills Online programme you can change someone’s world from your own home.
Speaking about Aware’s recruitment campaign, Cadbury Ireland Senior Brand Manager, Tricia Burke said: “Cadbury has had a long-standing relationship with Aware and we have huge admiration for the outstanding work they do. We have been working closely with the Aware team to develop a campaign with the aim of generating awareness that help is there for those who need it – and also to encourage people to volunteer as support staff for their vital services. Now, more than ever, Aware need volunteers to help meet the increase in demand for their services and your support can make a real difference.”
Colin Hart, Creative Director, The Public House said: “Aware do great work and this is an urgent appeal for volunteers. We wanted to emphasise that urgency with a visual ‘call to action’ and give people a chance to do something at a time when everyone in Ireland wants to help”.
