Tom Nugent, a former member of Paddy Power’s social content and racing media team, has struck out on his own by setting up a new full-service marketing agency called Bullfinch.
The new agency, which is headquartered in Kilkenny, is already working with a number of clients including Horse Racing Ireland, Irish Thoroughbread Marketing, Lustybeg Island Resort and Mediahuis-owned brands LearningForce and Choosy.
A scientist by trade, Nugent worked for Paddy Power for over seven years but the global pandemic forced him to reassess his career goals.
”The pandemic pushed me to evaluate where I want to be and what I want to be doing and I took the plunge and haven’t looked back. Thankfully we have been really busy and I have some really supportive clients getting me off the ground,” he says.
According to Nugent, Bullfinch specialises in content, comms and brand strategy. “We have a diverse range of clients from financial services to bloodstock and everything in between. It keeps us on our toes. We have a pretty simple thesis: come up with good ideas that align with a clent’s goals and execute them well. I think our USP is our direct approach. I personally don’t go in for waffle,” he says. “ A lot of our clients are medium size businesses that are undergoing rapid growth. Their CEOs, or senior leaders, generally need two things – sound advice and not to be ripped off on price. We tick the box on both fronts and I think a testament to what we are doing is that essentially every client we have done work for to date has either retained us or come back for a second, third or fourth project. That to me is a sign we are doing something right,” he adds.
