The collaboration between media agency MEC and 4th year students in IT Tallaght studying advertising and marketing communications, has drawn to a close and one winner will be awarded a Summer internship with the agency.
Last September, MEC formed a collaboration with IT Tallaght’s 4th year students and its clients Vodafone and Pladis took part in the collaboration and provided two live briefs.
In their final year, the advertising and marketing communications students are required to complete a yearlong module called Advertising Portfolio Design. It entails a significant amount of work and is the equivalent of two modules in each of two semesters. Each student is assigned a role (Account Handler, Comms Planner, Creative, Marketing Manager) and is put into a team. Between October and May, they have been working hard on their given brief, and come up with a campaign strategy aimed at addressing and solving the problems posed in the brief. The brief and resultant work is at the centre of the module.
MEC’s Jack Gilligan and Jennifer Fallon led the students and had regular check ins, mentoring them, and making sure their responses were on the right track.
Last Tuesday, May 2, the students presented their responses to their lectures, MEC and the Vodafone and Pladis clients, Michelle Noonan, and Niamh Twyford.
According to Aoife Hofler deputy managing director at MEC: “We are delighted to work with the industry’s upcoming young talent from the final year Advertising and Marketing Communications class. It is a great opportunity for the students to get guidance from some of the best Senior Planners in our industry and to get a real insight into the variety of exciting things we do. We look forward to inviting one lucky student to join MEC for a summer internship.”
