The Lowdown:
In April of 2017, Ford announced their plans to sponsor UCC’s Quercus programme over the following five years. The Quercus scholarship is a course for talented students that promotes excellence in academia, sport, creative and performing arts, active citizenship and innovation/entrepreneurship.
A 60 second video was conceived by Ogilvy & Mather to announce the sponsorship of the Quercus course by Ford to the public.
A story related in a 1967 pamphlet by retired head gardener Harry Glavin tells of two soldiers who were convalescing at UCC under the auspices of then President Bertrand Windle during WWI.
From this story, Ogilvy put together a script and visual identity from Simon O’Neill, copywriter and Erik Ryan, art director with Niamh O’Kennedy as Business Director.
The 60 video was produced by Red Rage films and shot over two days on location in Fota House and the grounds of UCC. Directed by Lorcan Hynes, two young actors Kerrie O’Sullivan and Adam Devreaux portrayed the student and soldier, respectively.
Paul Holmes and Treasa O’Friel produced with Narayan Van Maele as cinematographer, production design by Joe Fallover and editing by Tony Kearns.
Post production and picture grading took place at Windmill Lane with audio recording and sound mixing at their Number 4 Studio with actress Kerrie O’Sullivan doubling up as VO artist.
