MediaVest has picked up the media buying account for Aer Lingus following a competitive pitch that involved Mindshare and Carat.
The creative account was not put out to pitch and stays with Irish International.
Aer Lingus is one of the most active brands in the advertising market with high visibility on TV, radio and press. The company’s fortunes have seen a massive turnaround over the past few years and its most recent results show that revenues for 2012 rose 8.2% to €1.39 billion while operating profits jumped 40% to€69.1m. Pre-tax profits, meanwhile, amounted to €40.6m for the year.
For the past number of months, the airline has been embroiled in a public spat with rival Ryanair following the latter’s most recent attempt to stage a hostile acquisition of the airline. Earlier this week, however, the European Union has blocked Ryanair’s renewed attempt to take over Aer Lingus on competition grounds. The EU Commission said the potential merger could create a dominant company on the 46 routes the airlines currently compete for, thereby harming consumers.
