Despite coming in for some criticism earlier in the afternoon for missing the first 20 seconds of the Wales vs Scotland match, the broadcaster pulled it out of the bag with its coverage of the all-important Ireland vs France showdown. It later transpired that the earlier hiccup was caused by a delay in the deliver of the World Feed from the host broadcaster, the BBC, which had a knock-on effect on other partner broadcasters, including TV3.
With the rugby out of the way, the second act in TV’s Super Saturday line-up – Ireland’s Got Talent- also proved to be a hit with an average of 469,000 viewers watching the first episode. Viewing peaked at 540,000 and a star was born as 81-year-old Evelyn Williams received the golden buzzer for her rendition of Send in the Clowns. The show reached 866,000 viewers across the 90-minute broadcast.
Following the main show, an average of 236,000 viewers watched Glenda Gilson and James Kavanagh go behind the scenes for more gossip and action in Ireland’s Got Mór Talent.
TV3’s all day share of viewing on Saturday 3rd February was 24.5%, making it the number one channel in the country on the day.
According to Bill Malone, Director of Programming: “It is great to get the NatWest 6 Nations and Ireland’s Got Talent off to such a strong start. With Johnny Sexton’s stunning drop goal in Paris and 81-year-old Evelyn Williams’ golden buzzer on Ireland’s Got Talent, TV3 had two classic TV moments in one evening. And it is heartening to get such a positive reaction to Super Saturday.”
