It’s that time of the year when we should all dig deep into our pockets and try and support a range of different worthy causes. Amongst them is Movember, the now global initiative which supports and raises funds for a range of men’s cancer-related charities.
Once the preserve of spiffy army majors, seventies porn stars, the moustache makes its annual comeback every Movember as men around the world change their shaving routines to raise money as they do their best to look like Ron Burgandy. Or indeed Ron Jeremy for that matter.
To raise awareness and contributions for Movember, Core Media, has taken a very clever and innovative approach to raising money by partnering with Gillette to become the first building in the world to grow a moustache. Yes, that’s right, a building that grows a moustache! Triggered by online donations, the light-up moustache installation grows with each online contribution from the fifth floor of Core Media’s river facing office building at Sir John Rogerson’s Quay. Employees are also showing their Movember support by growing facial hair and sharing updates on the moustache installation across social networks. The media group is hosting themed events throughout the month, which started with a shave-off and charity bake sale earlier this month. Core Media has also created its own microsite www.coremo.ie where people can find out more information, track the progress of different staff members and, of course, donate to this worthy cause. Similarly, the conversation can be tracked throughout the month by following hashtags #CoreMo or #bestamocanget.
This is the first time anyone has attempted to grow a moustache on the side of a building that has the ability to ‘grow’ larger based on the community’s participation.
Alan Cox, CEO of Core Media said; “We are delighted to have taken the leap this year and to become the first office in the world to grow a moustache! The Core Media team based in Sir John Rogerson’s Quay are going the extra mile to raise money for men’s health awareness and raise awareness of the campaign to passersby on the quays.”
So, if you haven’t put your hand in your pocked this Movember, dig deep and help this moustache grow and help raise money for what is a very good cause.
