Irish Distillers, which owns brands like Jameson, Powers, Middleton and Red Breast, looks set to grow its portfolio of Irish drinks brands following the announcement that its parent, Pernod Ricard, is to buy the US company Castle Brands for $223m.
Some of the Irish brands in Castle Brands’ portfolio include Boru Vodka, Clontarf Whiskey, Brady’s Irish Cream, Knappogue Castle Irish Whiskey and Celtic Honey Liqueur.
Other brands being acquired by Pernod Ricard as part of the deal include Jefferson’s Bourbon, Goslings rum and The Arran single malt Scotch.
“Through this acquisition we welcome this great brand portfolio, in particular, Jefferson’s Bourbon, to the Pernod family. Bourbon is a key category in the US, which is our single most important market,” said Pernod Ricard’s CEO, Alexandre Ricard.
