The two charities chosen for the Cannes Young Lions 2024 competition are Threshold and Children in Hospital Ireland.
The two charities were announced at a gathering of 210 young professionals at an information-led event run by IAPI and held in the offices of dentsu today (February 16).
“This year’s chosen charities will allow young creatives to support impactful causes while honing their creative skills. It makes me so proud to be able to support these worthy charities during our Young Lions national competition. Both organisations have an important part to play in improving the lives of people living in Ireland. I believe the Young Lions will enjoy working on these challenging briefs and I can’t wait to see the creative ideas generated,” says Charley Stoney, CEO, IAPI.
Once again, teams entering the Cannes Young Lions this year will compete across seven categories including Print, Media, Public Relations, Film, Digital, Design, and Young Marketers. Winning teams in each category will represent Ireland at the Global Young Lions competitions this June in Cannes, France.
The chosen charity for the Media, Digital and Film is Threshold, a national housing charity dedicated to preventing homelessness and advocating for the rights of those in need of housing.
“Threshold, the national housing charity, is absolutely delighted and privileged to have been selected as a Cannes Young Lions charity this year,” says John-Mark McCafferty, chief executive of Threshold. “As the national leader advising private renters and protecting tenancies, it is more crucial than ever that we build and maintain our profile and voice across Irish audiences. Staying relevant, raising vital funds and letting people know we exist to support them in their rented home can only be done with the right branding and messaging. That’s why being a Cannes Young Lions charity is so important to us. The competition can help enhance our presence and our impact in the midst of such a challenging housing crisis,” he says.
The chosen charity for the Print, PR, Young Marketers and Design categories is Children in Hospital Ireland and, according to Anna Gunning, CEO: “Children in Hospital Ireland are honoured to be part of IAPI’s Cannes Young Lions competition this year. We are always looking for new ways to raise awareness of our work and maximise supports for children in hospital and their families. What better way than to partner with the young creatives of Ireland. We are so excited to see how they take on our communication challenges and bring new ideas to the table. We wish all participants the very best of luck.”
Similar to previous years, the participants will have the opportunity to collaborate with these charities to develop innovative campaigns that raise awareness and support their key initiatives. Working under a tight deadline they have until midnight on Sunday, February 18th to submit their work.
This year, sponsors of the Cannes Young Lions include Pull the Trigger,Sky Ireland, Business Post, Smurfit Kappa, Droga5 Dublin, Aer Lingus and Enterprise Ireland.
