Ireland’s first 360° short documentary has been produced by RTÉ’s Prime Time.
The documentary, about the closure of the O’Devaney flats complex in Dublin, was filmed entirely with a 360° camera.
RTÉ Prime Time’s Mark Coughlan and Conor Wilson filmed with the few remaining residents of Dublin’s O’Devaney Gardens flat complex, as they spoke of life and history in the almost completely deserted blocks of flats.
For the first time, viewers will be able to fully immerse themselves in the footage and get an unprecedented perspective of everything that’s happening in the location as the documentary proceeds. The camera films all around, above and below its position, allowing the viewer to look up to see the size of the flat blocks, look around to see the dimensions of rooms in the flats, and get a full view of the conditions of the stairwells and balconies in the remaining blocks.
Built in the 1950s, O’Devaney Gardens was once home to over 270 families. In the last decade much of it has been demolished. The remaining four blocks have fewer than 10 occupied units and, after the collapse of the planned regeneration scheme, are expected to be torn down in the next twelve months.
