One of the country’s top marketers, Henry Dummer is to join eir as the company’s new marketing director. Dummer has been marketing director of Tesco since 2011.
He replaces Lisa Comerford who joined Brown Thomas as marketing director earlier this year.
Prior to joining eir, Dummer was customer marketing director at Diageo for over five years and before this he worked with GlaxoSmithKline in the UK as its marketing controller.
He joins the telecommunications company at a pivotal time following its move into the TV market with eir TV and its acquisition of Setanta Sports, which has since been renamed eir Sports.
The company is also one of three telcos shortlisted for the National Broadband Plan alongside Siro, the Vodafone/ESB consortium, and ENet. It is also in the early stages of its own plans to connect over 300,000 homes and businesses in broadband-deprived areas around the country with fibre to the home (FTTH) by the end of 2018. According to some reports, the first 1,000 homes have already gone live.
One of his first tasks is likely to be the rubber-stamping of the appointment of DDFH&B as the creative agency for both eir, which it already handles, and Meteor. After a two-way pitch with a London-based agency, DDFH&B is picked up both accounts on an interim basis pending the appointment of a new marketing director. It is understood that the agency is already working on company’s Christmas campaigns, a crucial time of the year for mobile phone companies.
