Lidl Ireland was the big winner on the night at the European Sponsorship Association Awards which were held in London last night, Feb 9.
The retailer came out on top in three categories for Best Overall Sponsorship, Best Sponsorship under €750k and Best Newcomer to Sponsorship for Lidl’s Ladies Gaelic Football #SeriousSupport sponsorship campaign.
Speaking at the awards, Lidl’s Sponsorship Manager Jennifer Gleeson said, ‘We are absolutely delighted to win these awards and more importantly for the recognition it brings for our brilliant sponsorship of the LGFA. Year one of our partnership with the LGFA was a resounding success. The feedback we have received from our own team as well as our customers has been nothing short of remarkable. With almost 150 stores, we are a part of communities all over Ireland. At Lidl we are extremely proud to continue to be the biggest supporter of women’s sport in Ireland.’
In 2016 Lidl became the Official Retail Partner to the LGFA, the title sponsors of the Lidl Ladies National Football League, Post Primary Schools competition and the Gaelic4Mothers and Others programme. The #SeriousSupport campaign saw the retailer invest over €1.5 million in Ladies Gaelic Football in year one and Lidl has committed to the same level of support for the season ahead.
It was also a good night for AIB which won the Best Use of Social Media category for its Backing Club and County/#TheToughest campaign.
Elsewhere, Electric Ireland was highly commended in two categories including CSR Partnership for its Darkness into Light campaign as well as the Sports Sponsorship under €750k for its sponsorship of Team Ireland in the Rio Olympics.
